Updated Forum to phpbb3

Postby Fred » Tue Jul 24, 2007 10:48 pm

It took a while but I think I have successfully updated to phpbb3. I still have some customizing left to do but it should be operational for now.

enjoy!

oh shoot. which ones are those? I didn't even notice. I thought no one was on last night while I was crossing over but maybe a few posts snuck in. :) The way the new phpbb3 is installed is you set-up a completely new version then you read the old database and convert it into a new database. so the old phpbb2 was operational during this cross-over. If someone posted during that time then that message would have been lost. sorry about that.

Aside from a different look, what features have changed from the user's end? Just curious as I don't really know dick about internet forums?

I see that I can change font colors!

Oh... I also see that I can add attachments...

Anything else?

I think the biggest advantage is behind the scenes. In the Admin panel there are many security features to help control spam which was the main reason for the upgrade. Otherwise, you are right, it's pretty much the same. That's a good thing though because we can addapt easy.

I haven't really had much time to look around, but it looks good so far. Hopefully this cuts out most of the spam.

Lots of new buttons though. I'll have to be extra careful. I'll get out a preemptive "sorry" for hitting something I shouldn't have and deleting a post.
