Editing Posts.

Postby mitchleblanc » Fri Nov 26, 2004 9:10 pm

I would really like to be able to edit my posts. I know, I know, I should re-read and double check etc, and changes later are annoying, but still, it's more annoying to have to post a correction.

The only reason I took out the feature is because people edit their messages after seeing someone's reply and then there is no continuity in the conversation.

For example. A while back you posted something about your shisty IBM notebook and I made a crack about it but the next day when I read through it again it was gone. LOL Thus, Fred sniffing gas again in the mornings making comments about Mitch's notebook for no reason. Yes I know this is a bad example. And yes of course that's not why I took out the edit feature.

By removing the edit feature it will help prevent hot headed posts while relying on the safety of the edit feature.

I can see your point. But it would be really nice to be able to edit posts.

There's been acouple of times when I've wanted to fix what I've written.

If editing posts became a problem you could always turn it off again.

I too would prefer to be able to edit my posts. The previous CNS forum allowed editing of posts. It was my experience that most people never realized that they could edit their posts. Posted corrections do get annoying. You do have a good point about continuity though. Maybe just give the ability to edit posts to people who ask for it. Make it clear when granting the privilege (form letter) that continuity changes will not be tolerated (editing should only be to correct errors, and if errors have stimulated comment that should be acknowledged: [corrected, thanks Jane Doe for pointing it out] ). Then if there is a complaint about continuity vallations, you can remove their privilege. By granting the privilege individually rather than on mass it makes it a privilege rather than a right.

As a dyslexic I have plenty of cause to edit my posts. However, the really funny typos which generate comment I leave as is. Some of my funniest posts have resulted from my spell check replacing the word I was trying to spell with something which means something else.

Just my thoughts. Not a CNS position.

I think a few typos is ok. And if you forget something in your post you can just post another message back to back. I think for now I'll keep the edit feature off. Sorry. :D

you can start a poll if you like and the majority can decide. I'll go with what people want but I think it's better to turn the feature off.

Peace

Old topic but I think we should be able to edit our posts, or at least within the first 15 minutes of posting it. Sometimes we don;'t realize we've typed somthing wrong till after you hit Submit.

frig the editing- get it right the first time or live with it. Just like when you talk... You can try and take it back, or wish you never slurred- but hey... deal with it.

Now moderating... that's a whole different can of worms... at least if my foul fingers are going to be moderated... the moderated words could be capitalized when they're at the start of a sentence.
