DO NOT GO TO OUR CLIFF ALONE (bear warning)

Postby PeterA » Fri Jul 25, 2008 9:51 pm

Use bear sense around our new cliff. There is currently a mother and cub around the area. Our plan to camp out was cut short due to her chasing us out. You should be fine as long as you are with a decent group and do not keep food with you. This is our first time seeing the bear at the cliff, and we have been there many times without incident. The only difference was that this time, we were there at night. We did have food for camping with us, so that probably didn't help.

We spent the day at the cliff and other than some scat on the trail everyone survived without incident. Bolted and led another route - Face the Pockets, 5.10d. Peter graded it 5.10a, but Cory and I upped the grade. Need help to confirm. 5 bolts.

I don't think so. The anchors you placed are to the right of the crack. This is on the left of the crack with a different set of anchors at the top. The anchors are about 10' apart.

I put a set on either side of the crack with the trees cut down on the top. I was eyeing up the arrete left of Toad in the Hole and I decided to put in a pair of anchors above a route PJ and I had talked about 10' left of the gully/crack as well. Have at her in any rate, I just didn't like the tree there and put in the bolts to facilitate. Got 4 sets of anchor rings for you guys, as well as 4 bolt hangers (all they had left) and PJ's biner. I'll do up the total in a bit. Heading in tomorrow night I think, if y'all are interested.

The route we put up was probably the one PJ mention. It is actually up the crack/gully at the start and then breaks left where the trees use to be sticking out of the gully. Really neat climbing up through a number of solution pockets at the top. Very balancy. The first bolt it placed but needs a hanger added. We looped a sling around the nut for the FFA but a hanger would be nicer. May join you Tuesday depending on weather.

Oh Steve, you disappoint me... isn't slotting a nut wire or your sling just a little spicier?! hehe
