Cloud Base Ice

Postby *Chris* » Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:04 pm

I spent the day at cloud base aiding. The entire lower tier had heavy seepage... end to end. If it is a persistent feature during the winter it has the potential for lots of interesting ice. That said, the access will be with 4x4 only. The road is cleared only to the end of the compost facility and is snow covered beyond that.

Also, driving past the quarry I could see that it has certainly begun to form up but is still a way to go before it touches down.

did you aid the roof?
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Matt and I were in to the Lower Tier there last year and found some good ice, managed even to put up a line or two. It was thin the day we were there but it had been fairly warm (-5C or so...) and because of the angle of the face the sun beats directly on the ice during the day. I have some pictures floating around somewhere that I'll see if I can track down.
