Quaco Head Conditions

Postby gwa » Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:49 pm

Hey,

Marty, Mike, Shawn and I went to Quaco Head, St. Martins on Thursday morning (Jan 6). We parked at the lighthouse, walked back to the white cottage and used the stairs. We had only a couple hours to climb before the tide came in (high tide was at 1 pm).

Overall the ice was lean. Aerial was far from being formed and still flowing with water. We climbed SND (wi3) and a seap next to it (near Aerial). SND protected well (placing 16cm in good ice) except for some thin stuff near the top. The ice that has formed was plastic and sticky. Marty climbed the thin stream by the stairs.

We didn't get to check out the ice by the flower pot. The tide was moving in too quickly.

Cheers,

Graham
