Overhang to Reindeerland Linkup

Postby *Chris* » Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:18 pm

Fred and I tried this initially 2 years ago. I gave it a good scrub last year but never actually climbed until tonight. Start at the left end of the overhangs in the hand crack but break left around the arete. Traverse across the cave void using a huge juggy crack and your feet just above the Access Denied anchor. Continue up to join Reindeerland.

Give it a go. It's a really nice little variation to an old classic. Eats gear. Enjoy.

I remember doing this with Fred a while back, or maybe we started just left of the left-most crack. In either case, it was a lot of fun and worth doing. Thanks for the scrub and reminder, Chris.

Thanks for the scrub, I'll be getting on it. Grade approximation?

I'd say it's 5.8 G variation. If you're a beginning gear leader this is a cool choice. The move across the void is way more airy than the standard move higher. The fall is into outer space on absolutely solid gear. I'd say it's an even cooler variation than starting up the cave crack!

The variation we did was different Cory... We exited left under the roof for the left most overhang variation, toped-out, then stepped over the cave at the usual spot for Reindeer Land.

This other variation Chris is talking about steps over the cave much lower. You can also do this variation coming from the 5.9 cave crack which is nice.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.
