bug report

Postby Leehammer » Fri May 25, 2012 11:51 am

We were at bear cloud base mountain last weekend and we got annihilated by black flies. What's the status elsewhere from people who have been out recently?

None during the day yesterday at the Kingston crag

Went to Mt Douglas recently. The approach was kind of buggy but the actual crag was very tolerable :) When you where climbing you could barely notice them.

Were mildly annoying increasing to annoying mid afternoon on Sat at upper tier. Didn't seem to be quite as bad at joes. Long pants and bug dope suggested. Not quite the need for a bug jacket/net.

To my surprise... climbing yesterday evening at Sunnyside was quite tolerable. A breeze may have helped the issue but even when the sun went down the mosquito and black flies were scarce for the time of year. I'd have rated it 2.5 on a bug scale of 10.

Bouldering yesterday in the (surprisingly awesome) Evandale Quarry wasn't too buggy... aside from the two bee's nests which were attached to vital handholds on 2 routes :(
