Cape Spencer / Gordon falls

Postby G Wau » Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:17 pm

Hey, I'm excited to hear there is good bouldering at Cape Spencer. Does anyone know what grade of hardness the problems are there? I'd like to get a sense if I would be able to do any of the problems before attempting to find the place.

I also live near gordon falls. I've always wondering about free climbing near the jumping area, just down the road from the bridge. Some of the cliffs are coming straight out of deep water. Could have potential, but they would have pretty high top outs to mess up.

Peace,

Graham

I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

The dude climbing in one of those photos looks like he's soloing with regular shoes and clothes and using an old fixed rope with knots every 5-10 feet to help him up. That's freaky.

Have you climbed there steve? What kinda grades and heights... trad or top rope?

Later.

There is not really any climbing at Gordon Falls other than ice. Although it's fun trying to climb onto some cliffs out of the water for a little water soloing.

We did bolt one route that went at around 5.11 but we removed the hangers 4-5 years ago

I wouldn't really say there is any ice climbing either. None that we saw anyways.

Depends where you went at Gordon Falls. Some of it's hidden, some not and really dependant on water tables. One year there could be some and then another year nothing.

the year we were there there were a handful of lines, all about 20ft or less high. not all that interesting unless you are just looking to play around for a bit. Pretty area though. worth the hike in just to see.

Yeah, for the same drive from Moncton. I'd go to Parlee Brook, alot more worthwhile.

Not my favorite, but my favorite in New Brunswick. Hopefully I'll be able to get out there this winter when I come down for a visit.

well yes...my favorite in NB too.

I quite like the climbing i did in Quebec while there. though it is in a tight race with Parlee.

I guess I need to get out west!

The Rockies are where it's at. The ice always brings be back over there. Hopefully this winter I can get to Norway, if I can find a partner. If not, Rockies again!
