Guidebooks now available at Rbloc in Moncton

Postby Dom » Sun Aug 18, 2013 10:51 pm

Hi guys,
Rbloc (currently closed for the summer) will be carrying the new climbing guidebooks in Moncton. This is great news for Moncton climbers.
The outdoor store Ocean Trail had refused to carry it although they carry climbing gear.
So good job Rbloc for stepping up!

What the frig... I'll call them and get my Moncton friends to call them asking if they carry the NB rock climbers guide ;) Maybe they'll cave eventually...
Great climbing links:

If I'm posting here, I'm probably at work.

Did they give a reason? I went there a few times and chatted with a few of the staff. There really isn't alot of expertise in there and they seem to be disconnected from the climbing community to say the least. This was just my expereince but maybe there are some people who work there that do know what they're talking about. The guy working the climbing section didn't even know what the belay devices where for and asked if I climbed with a rope when I went.

I talked to the manager over the phone. Didn't seem like a bad guy but he also didn't seem interested too. He asked me to send all the info via email which I did. He never got back to me although I tried to reach him a few more times. So he did not refuse per se but in my logic, that is still a no.

I presume climbing is low on his priority list...

Ya Moncton isn't much of a climbing city for sure. I guess I can understand where he's coming from but I still think he should have stocked them. It was good of Rbloc to take on selling them though :D

That is better anyway...support a small locally owned enterprise like Rbloc, River and Trail, Scout Shop, Rad Edge, etc rather than a large national chain posing as a small local company. Better yet...buy direct from the author so 100% goes to the person who did all the work.

Ya they defedently don't have the same feel as the local outdoor retailers. I would much prefer to visit Rad Edge to be perfectly honest. It makes a big difference when the staff is actually interested in the activities they sell products for.
