New route in Walton Glen

Postby Greg » Mon Mar 30, 2015 10:15 am

Annette and I managed to tick off a project on the weekend that I had been working on in the Walton Glen area. It is number 16 in Joe's new guidebook. It is located about 100 meters downstream from Walton Glen Falls on the east side of the brook. If you stand on the brook in front of the falls and look across the gorge to the east you can see the top part of the pillar. It is up and right of route #15 which is very clearly seen from the same vantage point.

White Fang: WI 5 30 m G. Hughes, A. Boerlage
Move right around the buttress and follow the long wall of rock that leads uphill until you find a narrowing 18 meter pillar. The pillar leads to low angle ice that steepens for the final 10 meters. Technical climbing for the first 10 meters, followed by a more straightforward but steep section to the top of the pillar. Very pumpy route.

Cool!! It sounds like the ice season went quite late in NB.
