Kingston - Medusa 5.6

Postby Rick » Mon Jul 27, 2015 8:57 am

The first hanger on Medusa at the Kingston Crag popped off this weekend. The washer and hanger are sitting at the bottom of the route, couldn't find the nut (which spun off; the bolt is still in the rock). Just a heads up.

Hope no one was on it at the time. That's a good reminder to everyone that bolts are not magic safe points, they are equipment that has been sitting outside for however many years, and when you clip a bolt you should be inspecting it to make sure it is not overly rusty, not damaged, not loose etc... it is not a bad idea to carry a small 9/16" wrench in your bag to snug up any spinners you find.

Also not a bad idea around here to bring a wire brush and give dirty routes a quick touchup on the way down, it helps everyone.
I just want to climb.

One of us was on it, luckily a few bolts above it by the time it popped off. But yeah, great reality check opportunity.
