Hey aid men

Postby Stevo » Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:24 pm

Any interest in a session this weekend? I think Moose River is out with the snow but Digby neck is a possibility. Sunday is looking the best day. And no, this won't be clean aid, no sirrreee. We'll be welding those pins with a big hammer! Pounding the suckers until the sparks fly! The sound of ringing steel will be heard echoing across the countryside! Lace up yer boots cos this game is for steely hard men only, no new age sensitive don't-disturb-the-ants aid here!

Watch where you pound those pins boys, Fred and I have some projects on the go in Sandy Cove. there are anchors at the tops of them.

I believe the current ethic in Nova Scotia is that pins can be pounded anywhere, as long as they are removed again, but non-aiders are also permitted to follow their own ethic when deciding whether or not to slip a tricam into the pin scar. I do know that the use of pneumatic jack-hammers is still "frowned upon", but not prohibited outright. I believe the use of dynamite to design new routes was recently voted down by a narrow margin, but a recount was demanded by the minority, so this may change. My advice is, if you obtain a municipal building permit and declare your route a "structure" or a "work of art", everything is legal. I am currently researching the legal implications of cross-border, interprovincial declarations of "projects", but I believe the Charter's mobility rights clause protects your right to declare whole cliffs "hands off", even while living in an adjacent province. Oh yes, and I don't think Steve was thinking of Sandy Cove

Carful guys, I think an environmental assessment has to be done before any quarrying can be done on the Digby Neck. But then, I suppose that under proposed legislation, if the quarrying is confined to less than a 3 acre area, you may be able to get by without the assessment.

What ever you do.. I wouldn't mention the word 'Quarry' to anyone on the Digby neck unless you want a proper RedNeck Brawl on your hands....

Brilliant stuff !...nothing like a bit o' full on heavy metal aid in the twilight zone between rock and proper climbing weather... for those of you who are interested, I often find a car jack is a useful tool, especially those small japanese ones, they open up those pesky finger cracks into fisters in no time... just make sure the belayer is out the road...

I love it in comes the brute. Alan you need to write a book on the proper way to Aid Scottish style :) Have you replaced those ice tools yet? It would be great if you could get a pic of them and post it. I wonder what the comments would be? Like did you borrow those off of Mallory?

Come on Punshon: you must have an old pair of strap-ons in the shed, with matching Teradactyls, hardly any rust on 'em. Come out swinging, instead!

Hey Steve-o,

If you do in fact keep your strap on in the shed... well... I dunno...

And Peter??? I'm not sure that a public forum is the most discrete place to be making asumptions like that. It seems to me that one's assumptions of others can only be based on the situation in which one exists.

I hope you keep yer shed locked!

I never stand in front of Stevo, if he is wearing his strap ons.

Hehehe- the mental image I mave in my head right now is almost unbearably funny.
Bunch of Goretex clad old guys on a blustery beach, yelling at each other over the wind, strap ons bobbing up and down as they try and decide who's gonna go first.
