Ice this weekned

Postby HDW » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:53 am

Any suggestions about where to take a couple of new iceclimbers to top rope this weekend? Is there any ice left? I'd like to try somewhere casual on the funday shore  - any ice still standing there?
thanks

Haven't checked out coastal climbs in a couple of weeks, but noticed that the tides were very high in the last week, so I would think the bottoms may be missing from more of the climbs than usual. Just a guess though.

Anybody been into the Folly yet this year - wondering if the river is frozen up...

Hey Rich,

No idea on Folly, but brooks and rivers in general are not looking too solid. Was into Windsor last weekend, and the river and resevoir lake are pretty much wide open.

The long, easy climb up on the left is in nice shape thouh.

Thanks for the info Darrell - too bad things aren't freezing up...

Made it out to Baxters harbour today with Cassidy - had a great time playing on some lines at Baxter's Harbour proper and then headed to Fern Guly hoping to get on Coby Irving Falls - last time I was there with Roger it was a beautiful little pillar - this time not so nice...had all filled in with snow-ice with huge cauliflower ledges - crazy difference. Played around on the surrounding ice a bit though - ended up climbing the right-trending gully to the right of the falls - figured it hadn't been led yet so decided "Knucklehead Gully" (WI3) would be an appropiate name. Anybody else get out? Am curious to hear what the rest of the coast and elsewhere is doing...

Rich,

I'm curious to find out how your getting out being a new dad & all. The only time I get out is Friday night between 7 - 9:30 for hockey. Do you have any tips / Tricks?

Well Conan...I'm not that proud of it...but the more annoying you are to have around the house the more likely it is that your partner won't mind you taking off for a day here and there...

Good luck :?

Got into Black Hole Sunday with Toby and Lindsay and the ice was deliciously fat. Lines that last year were thin and delicate are now thick and robust - we had a great day on super ice.

Rich,

So I should walk around naked and beg for sex more often?

I agree with Rich. Look miserable and they will be begging you to leave the house.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.
