Check it out, and then check out the amazingly poserish video at the bottom of the page.

petzl ice axe

Postby shannon » Thu Nov 10, 2005 9:20 am

Yea, I saw that last week. You say poser, I say it's a statement about creativity wed to practicality. The ice axe itself being a practical tool, and the performer being a fluid creative expressionist. The new tool (so the spin goes) would give the user creative fluidity and freedom to climb.

those tools will suck on ice just like the Fusions and Mantis

you need weight in the head
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

I didn't care much for the video....not a bad concept (the fellow playing with the tools and "imagining the posibilities"), but I'm not sure if it was particularly well executed. Maybe if it showed the ice climber in the back ground paralling some of the actions of the shirtless fellow I could see how he was imagining the posibilities more.

Frankly, I never imagined that balancing an ice tool on my chin would be very useful :).

Yup, I agree with Fred. These tools will suck bad on ice because of the lack of weight in the head, but for mixed climbing they are likely a dream.

However, if you live in NB, there isn't much if any mixed climbing around so they are mostly a waste of money.
