notched biners

Postby Adam » Tue May 10, 2011 1:49 pm

Why on earth do they still make them? I do not buy them... does anyone? I mean, sure if you wanna save some money perhaps. U'd think they'd stop making them.

Actually... I recently switched the binner on my rack of nuts to a Petzl Spirit and accidentally dropped three nuts in Bar Harbor. hehe
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Yeah I've had people tell me the same thing. I use notchless on my nuts as well and don't drop them but i'm used to it. i don't wanna rely on a notch to stop me from dropping stuff :)

Noseless biners are useful for cleaning overhanging routes or routes that really wander.

Most of my trad draws are wire gate notched biners and I think they work fine for climbing in NB. All this low angle stuff makes it easy to clean. Certainly good enough to prevent me from replacing all of them with new gimmicky noseless wire gates...Like the Petzl ange. I got one just to see and it's nice, if you're climbing El cap in a day...Not that great for cragging.

For sport I have a set of Petzl spirit quickdraws. I hate cleaning the last quickdraw of an overhanging route if it has a freakin notch in the biner.
So much rock, so little time
